Abstract

This research intended to explain and study the position of food photographers in the field of food photography in Indonesia. It also explored the position of food photographers, Richard and Ruby, who showed the feature of the new petite bourgeoisie. The perspective of Bourdieu's culture intermediaries distinctly in showing the parts of struggle, things that at stake, and kinds of capital which necessary to become a food photographer. Richard and Ruby occupy certain social class, and have common ground with more established bourgeoisie, have desire to climb social ladder with strategies to increase ownership and accumulate capital ownership of economic, cultural, social, and symbolic. The field of food photography requires food photographers to come up with variety of potentials, including those who started and obtained the potential by self-taught; to fight for position in it. Richard and Ruby also showed how the distinction is done in the taste of food photographer positions in the field of food photography for recognition or appreciation as posted on their Instagram account.
